The Porsche 918 Spyder represents one of the most technologically advanced cars ever released to the public. With two electric motors assisting the 4.6-liter naturally-aspirated V-8 engine, the car produces instant torque throughout the RPM range, peaking at 887 hp and 944 pounds-feet of torque.
The 918 was only offered with the PDK (Doppelkupplung) dual clutch transmission. The optimised 7-speed PDK, featuring both a manual and an automatic mode, offers extremely fast gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power. And that’s with even faster acceleration performance and a further reduction in fuel consumption. In manual mode, the shift direction simulates that of racing cars – to the rear to shift up, forwards to shift down. Gears one to six have a sports ratio, with top speed being reached in sixth gear. Seventh gear is ratioed primarily for fuel economy.
This specific 918 has been equipped with the Weissach package, with the main focus of reducing weight, and helping lower the 918 Spyder’s curb mass from 3,715 pounds to 3,616 pounds. Specific features include the addition of magnesium wheels, a lighter brake design, ceramic wheel bearings, and titanium bolts for the chassis. There are also add-on parts, mainly to aid aerodynamics and even a thin film coating for the exterior instead of regular paint.
The end result of the 918 Spyder, complete with the Weissach package, is a vehicle that will accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, making this car just as quick as the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and even faster than the McLaren P1.
