A Little History

The Pontiac division of General Motors was designed to be a mid-level series, one step above the cheapest models offered in the Chevrolet division. The Chieftain was produced from 1949 to 1958 in three generations. Our Chieftain is from the second generation.

Up until 1949, other manufacturers had been releasing slightly reworked versions of 1942 models, due to lack of resources and design time. The second generation of the Chieftain also featured Pontiac’s first V8 engine.
