Driven by Heritage: Porsche’s Evolution from Racetrack to Road

Presented by Ben Chester, Operations Manager at the Audrain Automobile Museum

Since Porsche’s first-class victory at Le Mans in 1951, the connection between its race cars and road cars has been closer than any other manufacturer. In this walk-around seminar, Ben Chester, Operations Manager at the Audrain Automobile Museum, takes a deeper look at how Porsche’s competitive spirit and engineering breakthroughs on the track have continuously shaped the cars we see on the road today.

From the pioneering lightweight designs of the 1950s to the turbocharged innovations of the 1970s, and the cutting-edge aerodynamics and hybrid technology of today, Porsche’s evolution is a story of relentless refinement. Join us as we explore how racing has defined Porsche’s legacy and how that Rennsport spirit continues to drive the brand forward.

The Audrain Concours and Motor Week draws to a conclusion on Sunday October 6th, 2024! Witness over 150 cars from various decades across various classes all competing for the coveted Best of Show trophy. General admission allows guests access on the field from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, concession stands will be available for food and drink. VIP admission gives access starting at 6:30 am with Coffee at the Concours and continues throughout the day with access to the VIP tent with food and drink served all day.

Get ready to shake, rattle, and roll at the 2025 Audrain Gala, the centerpiece event of the 6th Annual Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week! Step back in time as we turn the clock to the swingin’ 50s, 60s & 70s for a night of glitz, grooves, and good times!

Kick off the evening with cocktails on the East Porch, then take a trip down memory lane as we open the doors to the Audrain Bandstand! Our far-out Gala Chair, Therese Antone, Chancellor of Salve Regina University, will be joined by the ever-hilarious, car-lovin’ host Jay Leno, and the legendary Donald Osborne, noted writer, historian, appraiser, and Audrain Consulting Director. These cool cats will keep the night movin’ with their quick wit and a live auction you won’t want to miss!

Then, it’s time to boogie! After dinner, hit the dance floor for a groovy DJ set, dance competitions, classic retro décor, and more surprises! 

So, all you hip cats and foxy ladies, ditch the boob tube, fire up your VW bus or muscle car, and make your way to the bash of the year. It’s gonna be outta sight!

The Gathering is a day-long bespoke luxury event at Doris Duke’s spectacular estate, Rough Point.
