2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Black Series

720 Horsepower, 6:43 Nürburgring lap time, all-new Flatplane crankshaft V8. Is it Super?

The Mercedes-AMG GT Black series is far from just a standard AMG GT with a bodykit – the Black Series features wider, more aerodynamic carbon fiber body work and a completely redesigned V8 engine with a flatplane crankshaft. The AMG GT Black Series extracts the ultimate performance level possible from the GT platform.

The AMG GT Black Series succeeds the AMG GT R Pro in a lineage of numerous GT models introduced over an eight-year production run. Like previous Black Series models, AMG engineers have revisited every aspect of the GT’s design and driving experience to create the ultimate track focused GT possible, with many significant improvements under the hood. Perhaps the most substantial performance upgrade is the new flatplane crankshaft. With all crankpins now on one level and a modified firing order, throttle response is close to immediate. The Black Series utilizes bigger turbochargers over previous GT models, with an increase of boost pressure from 19.6 PSI to 24.6 PSI.

It’s clear that the body of the GT Black Series is radically different than any previous GT models, and all changes function to increase aerodynamics and aid with cooling. At the front, the grille is much bigger to increase airflow to the radiators, intercooler, and oil coolers. Canards are installed on each side of the front bumper, and front splitter is manually adjustable to increase or decrease downforce depending on the driving conditions. The hood and front fenders are completely new, with large vents designed to release hot air from the engine bay. The front and rear fenders are wider than previous models with new carbon fiber side skirts as well. The massive rear wing is the focal point of the GT Black Series and integrates two aerofoil blades. The upper blade is electronically adjustable with a cabin switch, and automatically adjusts depending on aerodynamic requirements.
