2011 Porsche 911 GT3-RS 3.8

Made as a homologation car for IMSA racing
Only offered in a 6-speed manual
Upon its release, it held the Nürburgring lap record time for production cars
When driving the 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, you feel as if you are driving in the 1980s, with tremendous sounds of the engine and transmission. Flywheel sounds are reminiscent of a Ducati super bike when at a stoplight - whirring and buzzing like a swarm of bees. The 2011 Porsche GT3-RS was built to meet homologation regulations in the IMSA GT-racing series.
With an immense racing pedigree behind it, the GT3 has ludicrous speed. The 0-60 time of 4 seconds the GT3 will make anyone who drives in it grab onto their seat a little tighter. Porsche did away with “unnecessary” extras like door handles, cupholders, an option for no A/C and radio, a titanium exhaust system, and a single mass flywheel.
The second generation 911 GT3 RS (known as 997.2 GT3 RS) received an additional 15 PS (11 kW; 15 hp) thanks to a new 3.8-litre flat-6 engine, bringing total power output up to 450 hp (336 kW; 450 hp). The only transmission offered was the six-speed manual. That manual was paired with a single mass flywheel, making the engine revs much quicker than a normal 911.
The car was not approved for competition in the United States by IMSA American LeMans. Grand-Am originally did not approve the car, but after performance Grand-Am approved the second-generation car in April 2010. IMSA did not approve the GT3-RS until its Homologation requirements were met. In turn, Porsche released this car specifically to meet those homologation requirements. The RS was modified according to safety requirements, which included a larger roll cage and fire extinguisher. Of the 997.2 GT3 RS a total of 541 units sold in the United States and 71 units in Canada.
The 997.2 GT3-RS shows true Rennsport with the sole purpose of it to be a race car for the road. Without luxuries commonly found in the regular 911 the GT3-RS. The GT3-RS is 55 lbs lighter than the GT3. Carbon ceramic brakes allow the car to break from 60 mph in 98 ft.
The GT3-RS offers an old-school driving experience. The driver and passenger get a visceral experience and become one with road and car. GT3-RS’s main rival, the Nissan GT-R, has a faster 0-60 range. However, was not as fast on the Nürburgring. At the time of its launch in 2010, the 997.2 GT3RS held the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record time of 7:18. Also at the time, the 997.2 GT3-RS held the lap time record at the MotorTrend Track with a time of 23.4 Seconds.
