A Little History

The 1970 Camaro offered the fourth consecutive year of the wildly popular Z/28 options package.

Unlike the 1969 model, also on display, this Z/28 contains the LT1 V8 engine.

SCCA Trans Am regulations changed that year, allowing displacements of up to 350cid, so Chevrolet appropriated the LT1 engine from the Corvette line to compete. Driven by Ed Leslie in the Trans Am Championship, the car finished in 2nd place behind the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302.

The Z/28 also received a brand new coupe body for the 1970 model year. The upgrades included a much larger rear spoiler and revised rear bumper, a smaller grille with larger headlights moved further to the outside, a wider and flatter hood with the reverse cowl-induction scoop removed, and a revised dash with a more centralized gauge cluster.

The Z/28 package cost an additional $573 in 1970. Chevrolet eliminated the convertible option in 1970.
