Surely, there is a saying that reads, “Take care of your dentist, and your dentist will take care of you.” After Nick acquired a garage to house, maintain and tinker with his collection of cars, A friend inquired about storing this Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale in the space. After the Alfa sat for many years, Nick’s friend was considering letting go of the car. In 1992, the two friends came to an agreement, and Nick was the new owner of this dramatic Giulia Sprint Speciale.

The Giulia Sprint Speciale created to be a more aerodynamic version of the Giulietta, for racing; powered by the very capable and sophisticated Alfa Romeo DOHC inline 4-cylinder. Also, it is one of the most elegantly designed sports cars of all time. Inspiration for these attractive little cars is drawn from the sleek Carrozzeria Touring “Disco Volante” racing cars from the early 50’s, along with Bertone’s futuristic Berlina Aerodinamica Technica (BAT) experimental show cars. The design of the Giulia Sprint Speciale was penned by Franco Scalione of Bertone and was one of the most radical designs constructed for an Alfa Romeo road car, then and still.

Nicks interest in automobiles would have led him to an Alfa Romeo sooner or later. He enjoyed sporty, comfortable touring cars, but above all, he wanted to have fun driving.  While this small Alfa has the looks to stand out in a crowd, its performance should never be diminished. These twin-cam Alfas are some of the most enjoyable cars to throw into a hairpin turn or take on a road trip. The power delivery becomes more energetic as the revolutions climb to redline, and only begins again with the next gear selection. This is the type of experience Nick sought after in his automobiles. These cars were often considered just as fun to drive as they are to look at.

To compete with small sports cars like the Porsche 356, the Sprint Speciale was originally fitted with Alfa’s 750 series 1300 cc. dual overhead camshaft four-cylinder engine, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. This car has had a replacement 2.0L DOHC engine fitted later in its life, providing upwards of 150 horsepower. This powerplant provides gobs of muscle to get the lightweight body up to speed, as the original 1300 CC unit could power the car past 120 MPH without much stress.
