1981 Porsche 936 Junior

  • Made to Commemorative the 1981 Le Mans Win

  • Produced by Porsche for a short time in 1981

  • Under 100 ever made

In 1981, Porsche racing drivers Jackie Ickx and Derek Bell won the 24 hours of Le Mans in the Porsche 936. A true powerhouse of a track car with 540 hp flat six engine that propelled it to victory, the Kart on display keeps the same influences from the full-sized version but made for kids. This kart was made by Porsche to celebrate that year’s victory and was given to some VIPs and the members of the race team, having been made to be a perfect half-scaled version while keeping the proportions of the car that won it all.

This Porsche 936 Junior is a children’s car modeled after the 1981 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning 936/81 driven by Jackie Ickx and Derek Bell. The 1981 race was Porsche’s sixth outright win at the event, and the scaled-down cars carried Porsche part numbers and were reportedly presented to Porsche personnel, drivers, and team members. This example is finished in white with the Jules livery and powered by a 206cc single-cylinder engine linked to a two-speed manual transmission with reverse gear.

The single-piece fiberglass body has additional sponsor logos, drivers Ickx and Bell decals, and Group 6 graphics. The car is equipped with high- and low-beam headlamps as well as taillights, and the adjustable rear wing features a secondary spoiler.

Two-piece alloy wheels measure 6″ in diameter up front and 8″ out back,

The single seat is finished in black vinyl with red cloth inserts, and a black rubber mat protects the flat floor. The steering wheel is stamped “Porsche 936/78 Turbo” and frames a control panel with a stop button, headlamp switch, and oil warning light, additionally the gear selector is mounted to the driver’s right.
