Sticking to the Speedster

It seems strange when auto manufacturers make customers pay ‘more for less’. This is the case with the limited edition 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster currently on display. Customers pay for an open-top car that requires its soft top to be manually controlled! This specific car has the Heritage Design Package, a $35k option, and the first example on the East Coast. Now someone might ask why an individual would pay a much higher premium over, for example, a Carrera S Cabriolet, with an automatic convertible top. They’re basically the same car right?

Not exactly.

Sharing the chassis, engine, and manual only gearbox from the GT3, the driver is fully immersed in a hardcore drop top driving experience. Most supercars today come with an automatic gearbox and a ton of creature comforts. Modern supercars aren’t any less fun to drive, but most lack the visceral experience of shifting gears by hand. The pair of Speedsters in the museum are a wonderful example of how a company sticks to their roots of focusing only on the purity of driving. Come see them at the museum today.
