Audrain Is Coming To Pebble Beach

Newport, RI: Wednesday, August 16, 2017 - The Audrain Automobile Museum (AAM) is proud to announce its participation in this week's Pebble Beach Tour & Concours d'Elegance. On Thursday, August 17th the Audrain will be driving its 1927 Mercedes-Benz 630K on the 40-mile Tour d'Elegance. Considered the most prestigious Concours event in America, the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance onSunday, August 20th is an opportunity for the Audrain to expand its reach and expose the West Coast to our growing presence within the car world.

The 1927 Mercedes-Benz 630K Drophead Coupe Sport Touring has a special history. When Daimler, the maker of Mercedes cars, and Benz, came together in the summer of 1926 to form Mercedes-Benz, the results were unprecedented. One of their first products was this 1927 630K. This automobile began its life in England in April 1927 as one of only two cars built with British coachwork by Thomas Harrington, Ltd. on a short wheelbase chassis with a supercharged inline six-cylinder engine.

Although the original owner is unknown, several different respected U.K car collectors acquired it in the following years. Mr. D.E. Howard of London entered the car in the Mercedes Benz Club Concours d'Elegance on July 4th 1953, taking first in its class. Later on, the car was exported to Thailand where it was seized by Customs and held in storage for a number of years. In the late 1980's, a wealthy Thai family with government connections learned about the car and acquired it for their personal collection. In 2009 the car sold and exported to California, making its way to the Blackhawk Collection before coming to the Audrain Auto Museum in 2014. This 1927 630K remains a rare example of an early Mercedes-Benz car with a long history, and the ability to compete in the pre-War Mercedes Benz class at this year's Pebble Beach Concours events.

The Audrain's mission is to preserve and present automotive history for current and future generations to enjoy. The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is the perfect opportunity for the Museum to expand its reach, present its mission, and showcase this rare 1927 Mercedes 630 Model K Convertible. "We are really excited to be here in Monterey getting the word out about the Audrain Automobile Museum by driving and showing our exceptional 1927 Mercedes Benz 630K," said David de Muzio, the Museum's Executive Director.
