1973 Meyers Manx Remastered Classic

  • One of the first Meyers Manx dune buggies fitted with a 3-cylinder Radial Motion air-cooled aircraft engine with auxiliary water-cooling.

  • Even torque curve and a unique engine sound.

  • A simple, robust radial engine design built by Bespoke Motors that can be modified and tuned by enthusiasts using LS1 internals, with off-the-shelf parts, easy to source and work on.

Radial Motion is unique in both the aircraft world and the automotive world – as their 3-cylinder compact radial engine are used to power gyrocopters & bush planes and now used in custom built automobiles.

The engine comes in five iterations with lower horsepower versions air-cooled only, depending on the application. With 150 bhp, the 2-litre radial 3-cylinder engine puts out over 3-times the original 1973 Volkswagen Beetle with a stock 46 hp,1.6-liter air-cooled, flat 4-cylinder engine.

The Remastered Classic you see here was built by the team at Meyers Manx in California, collaborating with Radial Motion, an Australian concept-to-product engine house specializing in innovative designs for aviation and specialist automotive applications. Radial Motion was formed working with Bespoke Engineering, an innovative engineering company that provides solutions to varied industries and specializes in prototype design and manufacturing.

The Meyers Manx dune buggy was initially designed by Bruce Meyers for desert racing by Southern California engineer, artist, boat builder, and surfer Bruce Meyers. Meyers sold Meyers Manx, his namesake dune buggy company in 2020 just months before he died at the age of 94. The new company, Meyers Manx Ltd., has remastered the surviving body moulds and continues to offer the fiberglass-bodied Meyers Manx dune buggy as a kit. Put it together with your family or friends, and hot rod it anyway you like using a classic VW beetle frame and engine, or custom chassis and engine.
